“Lügenpresse” is German for “lying press.” The term was appropriated and widely used by the Nazi Party to refer to media outlets that published stories contrary to the official party line. The Germans themselves largely abandoned the term because of its connotations.
After the encounter, Gray did a bit of research and found that lügenpresse is enjoying a resurgence among the Alt Right. “I see ‘lying press’ and ‘Lügenpresse’ all over the place,” white nationalist Richard Spencer told her in an email. “It’s typical Alt Right: serious … ironic … and with a sly reference to boot.”
Lügenpresse, "lying press," literally a Nazi-era term. You know, Nazis — the evil forces the US and allies defeated https://t.co/ozE4trOAMB https://t.co/AbUOUlwuq6
