Trump Takes Aim at Possible 2020 Foe Jeff Flake in Fiery Tweet: He Has ‘Record Low Polling’

If Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) really does go through with a 2020 primary run against President Donald Trump, we now have an idea of the type of mudslinging we can expect on the campaign trail.
In a Thursday morning tweet, the president bashed the Arizona Senator — who’s leaving at the end of the year — for considering another run for office.
“How could Jeff Flake, who is setting record low polling numbers in Arizona and was therefore humiliatingly forced out of his own Senate seat without even a fight (and who doesn’t have a clue), think about running for office, even a lower one, again?” Trump wrote.
He added, “Let’s face it, he’s a Flake!”

So what set Trump off? Likely, it was the tweeted excerpts of a speech Flake is set to deliver on the Senate floor Thursday — in which he plans to slam the president’s trade policies as “not grown-up leadership.”
I plan to speak on the Senate floor tomorrow morning to discuss the administration’s protectionist policies and the importance of America’s leadership in the world. Here is some of what I intend to say: pic.twitter.com/ox8HX75lsY
