Tucker Carlson: Trump Loves Watching TV Because Programming Is More Accurate Than Polling

Fox News host Tucker Carlson gave an interview to his former staffers at The Daily Caller recently, and he talked about why President Trump thinks television programming is more reliable than polling when it comes to taking the public’s pulse on the issues.

In an extensive podcast discussion with political editor Jamie Weinstein, Carlson talked about a conversation he had with Trump on the president’s TV consumption and interest in being a producer. Carlson chalked this up to Trump’s role on The Apprentice, where the mogul was known to supervise the process behind the show.

Eventually, Carlson said that Trump believes TV programming provides insight into the public’s mood because it’s “a pretty clear window into what people care about.”

“He believes that television producers, especially of highly rated shows, understand what the public is interested in, what it fears, what it wants, what it loves,” said Carlson. “And that’s one of the reasons he watches a lot of television. Whether that’s true or not is an entirely debatable point, but he believes if you want to know where the country is, watch TV.”

Trump has a love-hate relationship with polling agencies. Trump frequently touted his poll numbers when they were favorable to him during the 2016 election, though in recent times, he usually bashes polls whenever they note his low approval numbers.

The interview went on to cover a multitude of subjects, from Carlson’s skepticism of the Trump-Russia investigations, his thoughts about the political left, and his decision to turn down interviews with Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin.
