Twitter Reacts to Kobe Bryant Winning Oscar After Settling Sex Assault Claim: ‘Kind of Spoiling the #MeToo Moment’
History was made at the Oscars when NBA all-star Kobe Bryant won an Oscar for his animated short film Dear Basketball.
While much of Twitter was in amazement that the basketball player now has as many Academy Awards as Leonardo DiCaprio, several invoked his accusation of sexual misconduct.
In 2003, Bryant was accused of raping a 19-year-old and was charged with sexual assault and false imprisonment, but the case was dismissed when his accuser refused to testify. He did offer an apology and while admitting to giving the bruises on her neck, he insisted their encounter was consensual.
However, as Hollywood is in the midst of a #MeToo after the downfall of disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein, many on Twitter felt Bryant’s Oscar win was pretty inconsistent.
Anything inconsistent in Kobe Bryant winning an Oscar in the midst of #MeToo ?

Hilarious. In the year of #MeToo Kobe Bryant, charged in a rape case he settled for big bucks, gets voted an #Oscars by a bunch of #AcademyAwards members who used to go to his basketball games.
And I doubt it will even become a major issue.
