Two Shots Fired into Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau; Network Blames Israel

Al Jazeera was forced to evacuate its Gaza bureau this morning after “two very precise shots” were fired directly into their offices.

“We are high up in the building so we had a very strong vantage point over the area. But we have evacuated,” Al Jazeera reporter Stefanie Dekker said to the network. “Our office building also has many residential apartments. People [are] leaving, panicked.”

The incident comes days after Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman announced that he would work to shut down the Qatari-owned news network, saying Al Jazeera “has abandoned even the perception of being a reliable news organization and broadcasts from Gaza and to the world anti-Israel incitement, lies, and encouragement to the terrorists.”

According to Al Jazeera, this may have signaled to Israeli forces that the network was fair game for attacks. “We hold the Israeli authorities fully responsible. They have put the lives of journalists in danger,” they wrote in a statement.
