Video: Dramatic Footage of Gunfight Between Police and Congressional Shooter Released

The New York Post obtained footage taken with a camera phone of the shootout between Capitol Police officers and the gunman who opened fire on a GOP Congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning.

James T. Hodgkinson, 66, fired a semiautomatic rifle at congressman on the Alexandria, Virginia baseball field, wounding four people, including Rep. Steve Scalise.

Witnesses reported hearing between 50 and 100 shots as Capitol Police, there as a part of Scalise’s security detail, exchanged fire with the gunman. Both officers were struck by bullets and wounded before taking Hodgkinson down. The assailant later died at the hospital from his wounds.

The video obtained by the Post was filmed by someone on the outskirts of the baseball field. A number of shots can be heard, as well as shouting, as the man filming scrambles for cover.

Someone can be seen lying motionless on the ground, as the man filming asks if “the guy who’s been shot, is he okay?”

More gunfire is heard, as people yell to “stay down!”

“Shoot his fucking head off,” one man yells. At the end of the video, a group of people can be seen huddled around the victim, who may be Congressman Scalise.
