University of Miami football is in the midst of a renaissance. The U is currently a perfect 9-0 after blowing out third-ranked Notre Dame 41-8 on Saturday night, and figures to be in a prime position to make the College Football Playoff if they can reel off a few more wins. But for the second straight week, their game was marred by a violent incident in the stands.
In the video above (via 5th Year), you can see a rowdy group of fans representing Miami and Notre Dame — two longtime rivals — furiously throwing down in the concourse of Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
The most violent part of the brief clip begins at the 12 second mark. There, a Notre Dame fan (wearing that team’s green), who had been fighting with someone else, jumps in on another skirmish and hits a Miami fan in the back of the head. Then, a Miami fan (sporting his team’s orange) jumps in from nowhere, and clocks that Notre Dame fan with a right hand shot. Almost instantly, that Miami fan pays the price — as another Notre Dame supporter absolutely clocks the guy with a vicious right hand of his own.
The scuffle comes one week after a fan slapped a police officer as she was being removed from the stadium for disorderly conduct. That officer responded by punching her in the face.
