WATCH: Plane’s Engine Bursts Into Flames in Midair, Terrified Passenger Sent ‘Goodbye Texts’
A commercial Boeing 757 flight was forced to make an emergency landing in southern Italy over the weekend after one of its engines burst into flames in midair in a pulse-pounding moment captured on video.
The flight from Corfu to Düsseldorf on Saturday evening was carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members when flames suddenly erupted from the engine.
Videos posted to TikTok appeared to show the engine spitting fire and cracking with loud bangs.

Terrified passengers, fearing the worst, reportedly texted final goodbyes to family members.
“Suddenly, the power went out for a few seconds, and we realized we were no longer climbing,” one passenger told German newspaper Bild.
“It was an incredibly horrible experience. I already sent goodbye texts because I thought, ‘It’s over now,'” another added, according to the New York Post.
The jet diverted to Brindisi Airport and landed safely at 8:15 p.m. local time, just 40 minutes after takeoff.
Condor said in a statement that the problem was linked to “a parameter indication outside the normal range caused by a disturbance in the air flow supply to the engine.”
A spokesperson added that the incident “was caused by a chemical reaction that happened inside the combustion chamber,” but stressed that passengers were never “in danger.”
