Since the GOP has 52 senators, if only three of them are against the bill, it fails. After the last failure, Trump tried to push a “repeal now, replace later” plan, which would get rid of Obamacare and give Congress two years to come up with a new plan, only to have that fail within 24 hours. Afterwards, Trump declared that he will “just let Obamacare fail.”
The next day, July 19, Trump came back fighting and called a lunch meeting where he and GOP senators would talk about healthcare. During the meeting, Trump said he was “ready to act” and pushed the Republicans to follow through on repealing the Affordable Care Act, something they’ve been promising to do for seven years.
“We can repeal, but we should repeal and replace and we shouldn’t leave town until this is complete, until this bill is on my desk, and until we all go over to the Oval Office, I’ll sign it and we can celebrate for the American people,” Trump said.
Trump gave a sneak peak to Twitter Monday morning about what he will say in his statement later today:
