Watch This Poor Reporter Get Puked On During a Live Fourth of July Broadcast
So, how did you spend your Fourth of July? Did you get puked on by strangers on live TV? No? Then, chances are, you had a far more enjoyable holiday than KTLA reporter Wendy Burch.
The veteran California news reporter has become a viral sensation due to a live segment she did yesterday morning from the Hermosa Beach Ironman. The event features competitors running a mile, paddling a mile, and then chugging a six-pack of beer.
So, yeah, it is an early-morning drinking competition. And Burch was tasked with covering it. And for her troubles, she ended up being the target of some projectile vomit.
With a whole slew of beered-up “athletes” slamming beers around her — and dealing with the repercussions — Burch did her live TV hit by pulling over a large man to talk about the event. And, well, here’s how Burch describe what happened next in a piece for Huffington Post:
I grabbed a guy who appeared to be a spirited competitor, and from the evidence of his beer belly, had been clearly training for this event for years. My hope was that his broad… ah, erh… shoulders, could shield our morning viewers from the ups—and from what wasn’t staying down—in this competition. What I didn’t notice until later, is that he had a bullseye drawn on his back with the words “puke here” written in magic marker.
And wouldn’t you know it? Someone took him up on the offer right during the middle of my live report, much to the chagrin, of me, our anchors and anyone in Southern California who may have been eating breakfast at that very moment.
Immediately after she got hit by the flying vomit, the video froze up and the anchors back in the studio reacted exactly how you figured they would. (Burch noted in her HuffPost piece that the video freezing was just a technical glitch and not a quick-thinking director.) They were eventually able to gain their composure and get back on track with the broadcast.
