‘White Nationalists Embrace This Man’: CNN Anchor Wonders How Bannon Hire Shows Trump’s ‘Softening’
During a panel discussion on CNN this morning, anchor Carol Costello asked the panelists how President-elect Donald Trump can be credited with softening his rhetoric towards minorities when he’s hired Breitbart’s Steve Bannon as his chief strategist.
First bringing up Trump’s apparent shift on the border wall and immigration, where he’s said he would concentrate first on deporting the criminal element in terms of undocumented immigrants and that there could be some fencing as opposed to an actual wall, Costello asked if this was a softening of the language.
After Boston Globe’s Matt Viser pointed out that you’ve seen the softening in Trump’s Twitter feed and that he’s likely looking to make deals now, Costello mentioned the recent hiring of Bannon.
“We all heard you on these softening of the stances he has that worries minorities,” Costello said.
She continued, “Then on the other hand, Steve Bannon, his chief strategist. White nationalists embrace the man.”
Costello read off some Breitbart headlines and then pointed out why minorities may not be all in when it comes to Trump right now.
“I think that when minority groups look at Steve Bannon as Trump’s chief strategist and look at the softening of the rhetoric, they are really confused,” Costello explained.
CNN contributors Andre Bauer and Maria Cardona then debated over Bannon’s attributes and whether or not they should reflect fully on Trump himself.
