Who Won the 2015 CPAC Straw Poll?
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) took top honors the CPAC straw poll, an early indicator of conservative enthusiasm and snapshot of individual candidates’ popular fortunes. It’s the second year in a row the younger Rand has won the poll, after his father won in 2010 and 2011.
Paul took in 25.7% of the 3000 votes cast, with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker clearing 21.4%; Walker has been ascendant in other polls in the last few weeks. Senator Ted Cruz and neurosurgeon headline-generator Ben Carson were all but tied at 11.4% and 11.3%, respectively. Jeb Bush, the putative establishment candidate, came in at fifth, his standard showing in conservative-heavy polls.
Paul had been followed last year by Cruz and Carson. Mitt Romney won in 2012.
Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina made the top ten. Rick Perry and Bobby Jindal each had disappointing 1% showings, while Lindsey Graham and George Pataki managed just .1%. Chris Christie managed only 2.8%.
