Whoops: GOP Candidate Stopped at the Polls by Voter ID Law He Supports

Asa Hutchinson, a GOP candidate for Arkansas governor, forgot one thing when he went to the polls Monday: his identification. A campaign aide had to run to his house to fetch ID before he was allowed to cast his vote his own primary.

Hutchinson is a supporter of the Arkansas’ Voter ID law that left him stranded at the polls. The candidate called the experience “little bit of an inconvenience” but reaffirmed his support of the law.

Arkansas’ voter ID law has been declared unconstitutional by a state judge, who stayed his ruling during the primaries; similar laws have been struck down in other states, most recently in Wisconsin.

Hutchinson went on to secure his party’s nomination.
