Would-be Crooks Who Targeted Bills Assistant Coach Rob Ryan Were Busted in Comical Fashion

screen-shot-2016-09-07-at-1-44-07-pmBuffalo Bills assistant coach Rob Ryan was the target of a robbery plot last summer while he was the defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints — a hare-brained scheme which was foiled in comical fashion.

The New Orleans Advocate reports that one of the would-be crooks accidentally left a voicemail on a wrong number.

That number turned out to belong to a federal employee.

“He don’t got no security,” an unidentified person said on the voicemail, according to a court document obtained by the Advocate. “He’s just a regular football coach. … He ain’t … big … like Lil Wayne or nobody … that got bodyguards everywhere.”

The jig was up when the federal employee gave the voicemail to authorities, who then surveilled Ryan’s home. Two alleged conspirators, Jockquaren Van Norman and Larry Quinn, were tied to the voicemails.

The plot against Ryan was just one in a series of robberies that Van Norman, Quinn, and six others are accused of trying to pull off last year.
