Trump Immediately Jumps On Hillary Clinton’s ‘Re-Education Camp Proposal’ As Proof They Are ‘Coming After You’

Well, that was fast. Mere hours after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested a “formal deprogramming of the cult members” who support former President Donald Trump, which aired Thursday, the Trump campaign has exploited it as evidence in support of former President Donald Trump’s campaign based on conspiratorial persecution of his supporters. Because, duh. Of course, he did.

During an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Clinton talked about the extremist wing of the House GOP, which just engineered the ouster of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, which she saw as symptomatic of a broader pattern. Clinton said:

I mean, we had very strong partisans in both parties in the past and we had very bitter battles over all kinds of things: gun control, and climate change, and the economy, and taxes. But there wasn’t this little tail of extremism wagging the dog of the Republican Party as it is today, and sadly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure. He’s only in it for himself. He’s now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions, and when do they break with him? You know, because at some point, you know, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members. But something needs to happen.

She was not joking and went on to add that the only real way to defeat what she sees as a “cult” is to defeat him in the 2024 election which she predicts will feature Trump as the Republican nominee.

The segment aired Thursday, and by Thursday evening it had gone viral. And Friday morning, Team Trump sent an email blast with the subject “Statement On Hillary Clinton’s Re-Education Camp Proposal,” which included a statement from Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc. It read:

“President Trump has said countless times that they are only coming after him, because he stands in their way from coming after you — and Hillary Clinton just confirmed that to be true. Tens of millions of Americans will reject the Democrat Party’s re-education camp agenda in November 2024 when we make Donald Trump the 47th President of the United States.” — Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc.

I mean, this is by turn the most predictable development in the history of politics, but also strangely consistent with how a cult-like leader would behave.
