House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries Questions Whether Trump is Cognitively ‘Fit’ to Be President

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries believes President Donald Trump’s mental fitness should be under the same scrutiny as former President Joe Biden’s was.

In the months leading up to the 2024 election, countless members of the media and the Republican Party questioned if Biden was truly fit to serve another term as president. He was, after all, going to be 82 years old by the start of the next presidential term. Following his disastrous debate against Trump, those concerns only intensified and ultimately led to his decision to drop out of the race — with former Vice President Kamala Harris taking his place.

On Tuesday’s episode of The MeidasTouch Podcast, host Ben Meiselas cited a number of instances that called Trump’s own fitness into question. That included his insistence that he’s negotiating a trade deal with China — which China denies — and the scene of him appearing to nod off during Pope Francis’s funeral.

“Trump spent the last year-and-a-half questioning the cognitive ability of President Joe Biden,” Jeffries responded, “notwithstanding many of the legislative accomplishments that Donald Trump could only wish he got over the finish line; and so, I think it’s fair that a lot of Americans across the country that I run into are questioning whether Donald Trump is actually fit, at this point, to be able to carry out the duties of the United States of America, in terms of being the president and the commander-in-chief.”
