‘Absurd!’ Speaker Johnson Rages as Move to Oust Him Picks Up Major Momentum

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) declared he’s not resigning amid a growing effort to oust him from his position.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) announced on Tuesday that is co-sponsoring a motion to vacate Johnson from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). The news came on the heels of Johnson dismissing concerns about conflict within his conference.

In a Fox News interview, Steve Doocy asked Johnson if he planned on resigning as the House Speaker is introducing multiple bills for foreign aid to Israel and Ukraine. Johnson has faced backlash on Ukraine aid from members of his own conference, among other protests.

“I am not resigning,” Johnson said again at a Tuesday press conference.

The House Speaker called it “absurd” to go forward with a motion to vacate right now.

“It is in my view an absurd notion that someone would bring a vacate motion when we are here simply trying to do our jobs. It is not helpful to the cause, it is not helpful to the country, it does not help the House Republicans advance our agenda, which is in the best interest of the American people. A secure border, sound governance — and it’s not helpful to the unity we have in the body,” he said.

Massie knocked Johnson’s support of $100 billion in foreign aid with his latest legislation pitch, calling it Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) “dream bill.”

Massie predicted while speaking with reporters on Capitol Hill that Johnson would lose more votes in a motion to vacate than the former House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy. Massie said the motion will be called and revealed he previously asked Johnson to resign.

Greene meanwhile said Johnson should be demanding the Senate hold an impeachment trial for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“We need a new speaker!” she wrote on X.
