AOC Blasts Trump’s Bronx Visit as ‘GoFundMe for Legal’ Bills: ‘Attempt to Trick Some Our Folks’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Donald Trump is trying to “trick” Bronx residents with his Thursday campaign stop there.

Ocasio-Cortez joined Spectrum News on Thursday morning to discuss Trump’s visit to a borough that has overwhelmingly supported his November opponent, President Joe Biden.

“This is an attempt, I think, to trick some of our folks here, but I think the Bronx knows better,” Ocasio-Cortez said, though she added later that she predicts most rally-goers will be “out-of-towners.”

She further claimed Trump has a financial motivation behind the rally, citing his ongoing legal troubles which includes a hush money trial in Manhattan where he’s facing more than 30 felony counts.

“A lot of this is about covering the increasingly precarious financial situation that he’s in, but Bronxites know better,” she said.

The congresswoman doubled down later, calling it a “GoFundMe for legal funds.”

“We’ve sized up the situation and we know what’s going on. This is essentially — I think it’s a GoFundMe for legal funds,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez later warned that Trump would make gasoline more expensive for the Bronx by having energy producers “price gouge,” citing a recent meeting Trump had with oil executives. Trump’s campaign noted that the former president would focus on energy costs and more being up due to continuing inflation.

Trump reportedly sat with top oil executives at Mar-a-Lago last month where Trump, according to The Washington Post, asked for them to raise $1 billion for his campaign and he promised to roll back regulations.

“We just saw that the former president met with oil executives last week, saying, ‘hey, you give me a billion dollars and I’ll make sure that you get the policies that are favorable,’ to raising gas prices and making sure that a lot of these companies continue to price gouge with proper oversight,” she said.
