Billionaire John Catsimatidis said Donald Trump was in “very high spirits” on Thursday following his conviction on 34 felony counts.
Gristedes CEO and Cats Roundtable host John Catsimatidis said on 77 WABC with Rita Cosby that he was one of the attendees at a dinner with the former president after the verdict in his Manhattan hush money trial was read. There were approximately a dozen guests, plus staff.
Catsimatidis called it a “wonderful dinner” and said the topic of discussion of the potential end of the “free world,” some comparing the trial to My Cousin Vinny, a 1992 film headed by Joe Pesci.
Catsimatidis also revealed there was talk of potential vice presidential picks at the dinner with names like Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) being thrown around. Nikki Haley was also mentioned as a strategic pick to win some cautious Republicans over, but Catsimatidis said some guests admitted to “hating” the former United Nations ambassador.
“It was a great evening, and he was in high spirits,” the billionaire said of the former president.
Catsimatidis only revealed Eric Trump was at the dinner, but said others were “top, top people.” Catsimatidis said he had not planned on attending the dinner, but some from Trump’s team told him he should be there as the verdict drew closer. The Trump ally said his specific recommendation to Trump when he was moving around the room was to pick an entire cabinet along with a vice president so they can run as a “team.” He also said he recommended holding back attacking “common sense” independents and others they’ll need in November to win.
Catsimatidis declared the world is “laughing” at the United States over the former president’s convictions.
“It’s a joke,” Catsimatidis said of Trump’s guilty convictions. “The entire world is laughing at the United States of America!”
