Border Patrol Union That Endorsed Trump Twice Comes Out in Favor of Bill He Staunchly Opposes

The National Border Patrol Council endorsed the U.S. Senate’s bipartisan border deal on Monday, despite the very public and angry opposition to the bill voiced by former President Donald Trump – whom the organization endorsed in both 2016 and 2020 for president.
“Since Joe Biden has been in office, CBP has averaged over 6,700 apprehensions per day, and the vast majority have been released under a policy known as catch-and-release. Approximately 60% of all border apprehensions are single adults, a good number of whom are men of military age,” said the NBPC, adding:
The Border Act of 2024 will codify into law authorities that U.S. Border Patrol agents never had in the past. This will allow us to remove single adults expeditiously and without a lengthy judicial review, which historically has required the release of these individuals into the interior of the U.S.
This alone will drop illegal border crossings nationwide and will allow a great many of our agents to get back to detecting and apprehending those who want to cross our borders illegally and evade apprehension. While not perfect, the Border Act of 2024 is a step in the right direction and is far better than the status quo, which is why the National Border Patrol Council endorses this bill and hopes for a quick passage.
The House Republican leadership followed Trump on Monday and released a statement calling the border deal “dead on arrival” in the House. “Any consideration of this Senate bill in its current form is a waste of time. It is DEAD on arrival in the House. We encourage the U.S. Senate to reject it,” read a joint statement from Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY).
Trump earlier in the day raged, “Only a fool, or a Radical Left Democrat, would vote for this horrendous Border Bill. This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats, and a Death Wish for The Republican Party.”
The NBPC runs the Border Patrol Union, which has been a fierce critic of President Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, and their immigration policies. Below are some recent tweets from the Border Patrol Union’s official account:
