Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) is assembling fellow Democrats to oppose President Joe Biden’s reelection bid.
The Washington Post reported on Friday that Sen. Warner is seeking fellow Democrats to convince Biden to drop out of the race following his performance at last week’s CNN debate with Donald Trump.
According to the report, a number of insiders are concerned about Biden following his debate performance.
Warner spokeswoman Rachel Cohen did not deny Warner wanted Biden out of the race as the lawmaker recruited fellow senators.
“Like many other people in Washington and across the country, Senator Warner believes these are critical days for the president’s campaign, and he has made that clear to the White House,” Cohen said.
Some Democrat critics have called for Biden to step aside following his performance with Trump, including former Bill Clinton strategist James Carville.
Biden dismissed Warner’s attempts in a Friday interview with George Stephanopoulos.
“Mark’s a good man. He also tried to get the nomination,” the president said. “Mark and I have a different perspective. I respect him.”
