Fox News Hosts Claim Michelle Obama Isn’t Helping Biden’s Campaign Because ‘She Wants To Run’

Fox News hosts claimed that former First Lady Michelle Obama wasn’t actively campaigning for President Joe Biden’s re-election bid because she was concerned about his candidacy and had political aspirations of her own.

Hosts of Tuesday’s Outnumbered claimed that Mrs. Obama’s recent appearance on Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose, in which she said she was “terrified about what could possibly happen” in the election year ahead, was a first step in testing the campaign waters for herself.

“She wants to run,” said co-host Kennedy. “So, this is her way — now that she’s talking about politics, if she were really concerned about the future and tenor of the country, she would be on the campaign trail with Joe Biden. She is just as concerned about him as she is about Donald Trump. This is her way of sending out a little canary into the coal mine to see if it lives, and I think this could be beginning of her campaign.”

Kayleigh McEnany cited a May 2023 Wall Street Journal op-ed by Douglas Schoen and Andrew Stein titled, “If Biden Bows Out, How About Michelle Obama?”

Fox News analyst Dr. Marc Siegel acknowledged, “I think Kennedy is onto something here.”

He continued, “By the way, the Democrat Convention is in Chicago, so that would be a great coming out party. The whole notion of saying, ‘We’re afraid of the other guy’ — by the way, she could mean, ‘We’re afraid of Biden, too. We’re afraid of him stumbling, not remembering what he’s saying.’ You know, she could be afraid of how presidential Biden is right now, plus her fear of ‘the other,’ Trump — I don’t particularly like that approach at all. I wrote a whole book on fear and fear-mongering, and how that’s not how to bring this country together. Talk about the issues: what about the border, what about the economy? You don’t want to talk about those things, so you make everyone afraid of the other guy.”

In 2022, BBC interviewer Naga Munchetty asked Mrs. Obama: “Which question do you detest being asked?”

“Are you going to run for president?” she said.

“Answer?” asked Munchetty.

“I detest it,” she replied. “No, I am not going to run.”
