Fox’s Doocy Relentlessly Pushes Karine Jean-Pierre on a Biden-Trump Debate: ‘You Asked Me Three, Four, Five Different Ways’

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy pressed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday on whether President Joe Biden will commit to a debate with the presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

Jean-Pierre repeatedly directed the question to Biden’s campaign, at one point calling herself a “broken record” as Doocy pushed on.

“Now that the field is down to two, is President Biden going to commit to a debate with Donald Trump?” Doocy asked. Nikki Haley suspended her campaign earlier in the day following Super Tuesday results.

“That’s something for the campaign to speak to,” Jean-Pierre responded, continuing to give that answer a few times.

Doocy noted that in 2020 Biden declared he couldn’t wait to debate Donald Trump.

“Why is this a campaign thing?” he asked.

“Because it’s an election. It’s a debate for the 2024 presidential election,” Jean-Pierre said.

Doocy continued pressing, arguing he wasn’t asking about specific arguments. Jean-Pierre said the president will lay out his immediate plans in Thursday’s State of the Union address.

At one point, Jean-Pierre grew tired with the repeated question.

“So, just for clarity, it’s possible that there will be no Joe Biden-Donald Trump debates this fall?” Doocy asked.

“Is that what you’re excited about? Is that what you want to see?” Jean-Pierre asked.

“I would love to see —”

“Because you keep asking me,” Jean-Pierre cut in.

Doocy said he’d loved to see Biden debate Trump.

“You asked me about three, four, five different times in different ways,” Jean-Pierre said.

When Doocy asked “how” Biden would fare in a debate, Jean-Pierre touted the president taking on “heckling” Republicans at his last State of the Union address.

“You literally saw just last year, back in January 2023 at the last State of the Union, take on Republicans [while] giving a major speech,” she said. “He took them on as they were heckling him. He took them on and said he was going to fight for programs — essentially said he was fighting for programs that the American people needed. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. He stood there and fought for the American people. I mean, that was pretty impressive.”

Part of the Doocy/Jean-Pierre back-and-forth aired on Fox News. The entire exchange, which was briefly interrupted by a short coughing fit, can be viewed below beginning at 33:10.
