‘JD Vance Couldn’t Be Bothered To Stay?’ CNN’s John Berman Torches Ohio Senator for Walking Out on Zelensky Meeting
CNN’s John Berman threw some serious shade at Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) for walking out of a Senate meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Tuesday.
“J.D. Vance couldn’t be bothered to stay the whole time, Manu?” Berman asked Manu Raju.
“Well, he did walk out and he said his mind hasn’t been changed. Vance is one of those skeptics, Ukraine skeptics, who is opposed to providing more aid to Ukraine,” Raju said.
Tuesday morning, Vance retweeted Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts, who praised him for his steadfast refusal to approve more aid.
“We need more courageous leaders like @JDVance1 to speak the truth about what’s really happening in Washington. Predictably, ‘The Blob’ is outraged that anyone would have the audacity to question another $60 billion for Zelensky. Proud to stand with my friend from Ohio, who knows what time it is in America,” Roberts wrote.
Raju added that some senators didn’t show up at all to the Zelensky meeting, where Ukraine’s president was expected to request emergency U.S. aid in the war against Russia.
“A handful of other senators decided not to go to this meeting because of their opposition to aid to Ukraine,” Raju said. He continued:
Zelensky has a high hurdle here in order to convince Republicans, in particular, to green-light aid to Ukraine amid a separate dispute, a dispute over changing immigration laws to deal with the migrant crisis at the southern border with Mexico. Republicans want a deal on immigration first before they agree to more aid to Ukraine. So, even as Zelensky is making this pitch, we don’t expect many minds to be changed.
As senators began to leave the meeting, Raju gave an “early read about what happened.”
“According to Sen. Tom Tillis, he got a, quote, ‘warm reception,’ and he discussed the resources he needs to win the war,” Raju said. “He did address some questions that were raised about potential corruption in Ukraine. About whether U.S. dollars were being used to buy yachts and the like. Zelensky addressed those concerns, we’re told, head-on.”
Zelensky is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden later Tuesday.
