Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance predicted a potential “bait and switch” for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) while also challenging the vice president to a debate in a matter of days.

During a campaign stop in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Vance spoke to the press and said he’d agree to a debate with Harris on August 13. This would be according to a previously-agreed-to schedule when President Joe Biden was still shooting for reelection. Biden of course, has since dropped out and endorsed Harris.

Vance did not break down how his plan would work as Harris and Walz have been confirmed by the Democratic National Committee as the presidential and vice-presidential nominees, respectively. Donald Trump has also been resistant to a September ABC News debate he agreed to with Biden. Since Harris took top spot on the ticket, Trump has insisted the debate take place at Fox News and he’s been dodgy about his attendance.

On Wednesday, Vance said he’s excited to debate Walz, but also challenged Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, to debate him, the Republican Party’s vice presidential pick.

“So here’s my offer to Kamala Harris: If she’d like to do a debate with me on August 13, I’ll do it,” Vance said. “I don’t think she wants to anymore, because one, she probably she probably doesn’t even know she’s going to be the Democratic nominee.”

Vance predicted a potential “bait and switch” despite the Democratic Party officially confirming Harris and Walz this week. Harris had already earned more than enough delegates to be promoted to the top of the ticket.

“We’ll see if the Democrats pull a bait and switch on Tim Walz or on Kamala Harris, just like they did with Joe Biden,” he said. “But look, if Kamala Harris wants to honor her commitment and debate on August 13, let’s do it. I’m all game.”
