Kamala Harris Already Capitalizing on Trump’s Detroit-Bashing with New Campaign Ad

The campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris has already cut a new ad featuring former President Donald Trump bashing Detroit.

Speaking in the Motor City on Thursday, Trump claimed that if Harris wins, the entire country will look like Detroit.

“Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president,” he said. “Detroit’s a developing area, hell of a lot more than most places in China.”

The remarks were somewhat puzzling given that Michigan is shaping to become a crucial swing state again. Trump won the state and the presidency in 2016 before losing it and the White House in 2020.

Released on Friday, the Harris campaign ad begins with a news report about Detroit filing for bankruptcy in 2013 before its recent revitalization.

“We rebuilt ourselves,” the narrator says. “We looked out for each other, got our hands dirty, and put in the hard work. And this guy? [cuts to Trump golfing]. He don’t know anything about that. We are a city of winners, of up-and-comers, of builders. The Motor City. Bigger and better. Here, we believe in freedom. We don’t bow down to nobody, and we never will. And so what Donald Trump doesn’t understand or care to learn is that when he said, ‘Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president,’ that he should be so goddamn lucky.”

A voiceover from the vice president then declares, “I’m Kamala Harris, and I approve this message.”
