‘LaMonica Needs To Go To LaJail’: House Republican Calls for Arrest of Dem Colleague Over ICE Protest

Texas Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt on Friday called for the arrest of his Democratic colleague from New Jersey, Rep. LaMonica McIver, for her actions at an ICE protest that also resulted in the arrest of her fellow Democrat and Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka.

The Department of Justice has characterized the events outside an ICE detention facility in New Jersey as “assault” and suggested some arrests are possible, based partly on footage from the scene, to include involved House Democrats.

President Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan warned Democrats last week that crossing the line from protest to impeding ICE would risk facing charges, and some Democrats, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), have offered their own warnings in return.

Homan blew off AOC’s threat in an interview with CNN on Thursday.

Rumors began circulating on social media that one of the three Democrats involved, Rep. McIver, was to be arrested on Friday, and that prompted the response from Rep. Hunt.

“LaHunt need to go to LaJail,” he wrote, sharing one such report that included video from the scene.

At the time of this post, no arrests had been made or announced, with only the website New Jersey Globe reporting that charges were imminent.
