‘Messed Up as Hell!’ MSNBC’s Michael Steele Goes OFF On Ronna McDaniel For Talking About ‘Unity’
Former RNC chair and co-host of MSNBC’s The Weekend, Michael Steele, went off on outgoing chair Ronna McDaniel for talking about the importance of Republican “unity” during her resignation speech.
McDaniel stepped down Friday to make room for Trump-endorsed co-chairs Michael Whatley, and the former president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.
At the RNC meeting in Houston, TX, McDaniel said she worried about “internal cohesion”:
We want to make sure that we’re united as we head into this next election. Seven years ago I talked a lot about unity. I talk about it all the time; you guys hear me. We cannot win if we’re divided. We can only win through addition, we cannot win through subtraction, which is why I have worked diligently to expand our tent. But we do have issues in our party. There are people who are more intent attacking other Republicans.
Steele then admonished, “The unity thing is a two-way street. And you don’t have unity when you refer to Republicans like me as a RINO (Republican in Name Only) who’s been in the party for over 50 years.” He continued:
So, I was doing just fine. We were — I was winning elections. Right? What did you do? I mean, you know, we made a public policy case on Obamacare, right? We made a public policy case on foreign policy. We haven’t been making any public policy cases on anything. We’ve just been showboating. You allowed Marjorie Taylor Greene to show up in the House and disrespect your own house, and wear the Republican brand by wearing some dumb-behind cap on her head?
So, come on folks, let’s be real about what it is and what it isn’t. And what it isn’t is what the stuff that myself and a lot of others have been fighting for. Look, I’m at a table with people that I would love to engage on public policy about. But we talking about your dumb stupid stuff, right? This is the reality that put us in. So unity is a two-way street. Y’all need to work on your end of the block ’cause it’s messed up as hell!
