Nancy Mace Nukes MTG On Newsmax for Charging Ahead With Vote to Oust Speaker: ‘Don’t Know Why She’s Doing This’

South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace expressed bewilderment as to why Marjorie Taylor Greene was determined to bring the motion to vacate the House speaker seat to the floor this week.

Mace told Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt, “She’s going to lose. I don’t know why she’s doing this because the votes aren’t there. She’s going to lose the motion to vacate, and I don’t know why she’s doing it.”

So far, only Republican reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) have publicly supported voting to oust Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) — although Schmitt also brought up possible supporting votes from reps. Eli Crane (R-AZ) and Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).

“I’m hearing the same kinds of rumors,” Mace said. “I hope that’s not the case. Again, I want us to unite the party and show the American people that we can lead. And how we’re going to lead in shutting down the border, how we’re going to stop the invasion, how we’re going to stem the tide of inflation and massive spending that’s happened over the past years and decades, and what we’re going to do to make sure that peoples’ lives are more affordable, more prosperous, and more successful. That’s the message that we need to focus on as a party.”

The Hill reported that Greene planned to meet with Johnson Monday afternoon. She has cited Johnson’s willingness to reach across the aisle on issues like aid to Ukraine as a reason for his potential disqualification.

Over the weekend, more Republicans came out against Greene’s plan. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) questioned her reasoning.

“And it’s based in what exactly?” Crenshaw said. “That Mike Johnson brought bills to the floor that were necessary for our national security that the vast majority of members wanted to vote on? So, allowing the democratic process to move forward, our process that we have in our Constitution to move forward, is apparently the crime of the century according to these people, which warrants a motion to vacate?”

Johnson recently said on SiriusXM that he doesn’t “think too much about the motion to vacate.”
