Jack Dorsey, the tech titan who co-founded Twitter, reneged on a promise to donate $5 million to a super PAC backing the presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Mediaite has learned.

A source familiar with the discussions told Mediaite that Dorsey had planned to make the hefty donation to Common Sense PAC in August of last year. Also planned was a Twitter Spaces appearance with Kennedy, the source said. Neither materialized.

“It got to the point where his lawyer was requesting wire instructions,” the source said. The billionaire then ghosted the PAC, leaving its members “puzzled and stunned.”

Another source confirmed that Dorsey promised to donate to the PAC but ended up not sending any money.

Dorsey endorsed Kennedy, the political scion known for his anti-vaxx views, in June. In an appearance on the Breaking Points podcast, Dorsey said he supported Kennedy because he was “focused on peace” and “he has a grasp of all of the issues he speaks to…there’s no fear in exploring topics that are a little bit controversial.”

“I feel like our country needs his leadership,” Dorsey said.

It remains unclear why Dorsey ultimately declined to send the cash, but rumors are swirling in the Kennedy camp that the board of Block, the financial tech company co-founded by Dorsey that owns the platform Square, expressed concerns about his support for the divisive candidate.

Dorsey and the Kennedy campaign did not respond to Mediaite’s requests for comment.
