‘That’s Ridiculous!!’ Trump Surrogate Scoffs When Fox Asks If Trump Would Blame Iowa Weather If Caucus Falls Short Of Expectations
A surrogate for Donald Trump scoffed when a Fox News anchor asked if the former president might use the bad weather as an excuse if the Iowa caucus results don’t meet his high expectations.
In a recent poll, Trump was up more than 30 points just days before the caucuses. But Trump’s sights were set on a thorough shellacking of his rivals, and any less of an outcome could see Trump blaming the blizzard conditions for poorer-than-expected voter turnout.
“Let’s talk about Iowa a little bit because the weather could make this a little bit uneventful, it could also make it kind of surprising,” said Fox News anchor Jacqui Heinrich. “There is this expectation that Trump is going to be, you know, breaking records out there. He’s been far away leading the pack in the polls. However, will he just blame the weather if the turnout ends up hurting his result?”
“That’s ridiculous!” answered Trump surrogate Karoline Leavitt. “Look, it is cold in Iowa, but Iowans are tough, and there are no more enthusiastic candidates than those for President Trump. We see them line up at his rallies in the wee hours of the morning, waiting in the cold, and if you live in Iowa, it is so important that you do get out and caucus on Monday and make your voice heard.”
Trump cancelled three out of four campaign stops in Iowa Saturday due to the bone-chilling weather. According to the Des Moines Register, “While the last of blizzard conditions are expected to end Saturday night in Iowa, what’s expected to be one of the longest periods of sub-zero temperatures in decades is setting in, with life-threatening wind chill.”
