‘The Fact That He Keeps Lying…’ Trump Roasted For Claiming He Wasn’t Told He’s In the Epstein Files

President Donald Trump received an avalanche of criticism on Friday when he claimed he was “never briefed” about his name appearing in the Epstein files, despite widespread reporting this week to the contrary.
Trump was asked by a reporter upon landing in Scotland Friday afternoon, “Were you ever briefed about your name being in the Epstein files, ever?”
“No, I was never briefed, no,” replied Trump.
On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal published a bombshell report that found that Attorney General Pam Bondi had, in fact, briefed Trump in May that he appeared in the Epstein files.
“In May, Bondi and her deputy informed the president at a meeting in the White House that his name was in the Epstein files, the officials said. Many other high-profile figures were also named, Trump was told. Being mentioned in the records isn’t a sign of wrongdoing,” read the report, which was later confirmed by the New York Times – among other outlets.
In mid-July, Trump did confirm to a reporter that Bondi gave him a “very quick briefing” on the Epstein files, but was not asked at the time about his name appearing in them. Trump’s former ally turned critic, Elon Musk, accused Trump of appearing in the Epstein files back in early June during their very public spat.
Trump’s Friday statement sparked further criticism online about his administration’s handling of the Epstein case, which has been roiling his administration for weeks. In early July, Trump’s DOJ and FBI released a joint memo concluding that the Epstein case was closed and that the various conspiracy theories surrounding the convicted sex offender were false.
The memo claimed that Epstein did in fact kill himself in jail and that there was no evidence that his client list exists. Bondi has particularly been on the receiving end of criticism for having previously claimed she had Epstein’s client list on her desk and that more information would soon come out.
“The fact that Trump keeps lying about this is even more evidence that whatever is in the files is very damaging,” replied former Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer to Trump’s Friday comment.
CNN’s Aaron Blake noted, “The White House didn’t deny this when it was first reported two days ago. It instead said it wasn’t surprising that he would be in them.”
