Breitbart News Pentagon correspondent Kristina Wong was announced as the new chief spokesperson and director of communications for the Department of the U.S. Navy on Tuesday.

“I’d like to introduce Kristina Wong, my new Director of Communications and Chief Spokesperson for the Department of the Navy,” announced U.S. Navy Secretary John C. Phelan in a social media post. “Welcome aboard!”

In her own announcement, Wong said:

Hi, I’m Kristina Wong. I’m pleased to announce I’ve just been sworn in as director of communications and chief spokesperson for the secretary of the Navy. My job is to keep you up to date on what the secretary’s been doing, his top priorities, and happenings from across the Navy and Marine Corps. Secretary Phelan has been working hard every day on ship-building, maintaining our maritime dominance, and improving the health, welfare, and morale of our sailors and marines. I look forward to keeping you posted.

Wong joined Breitbart News as a reporter in 2017, having previously worked for The Hill and The Washington Times.

Last week, Wong was reported by CBS News to be in the running for chief spokesperson of the Navy.

Wong’s colleagues at Breitbart News wished her well on her new position.

“CONGRATS @kristina_wong — sad to see you leave @BreitbartNews but the nation and the U.S. Navy just picked up a total superstar,” wrote Breitbart News Washington Bureau chief Matt Boyle.

“Could not be prouder of my now-former colleague @kristina_wong – one of the smartest, kindest, most dependable colleagues I’ve ever had the privilege to work with,” reacted Breitbart international news editor Frances Martel. “Like working with an encyclopedia. The best of the best. Best of luck with the Navy!!”
