Trump Education Secretary Refuses to Answer If Teaching That Biden Won 2020 Election is ‘Illegal DEI’

Education Secretary Linda McMahon couldn’t commit to an answer when asked if teaching students that Joe Biden won the 2020 election was “illegal DEI.”

McMahon on Wednesday appeared before the House Education and Workforce Committee to discuss the Department of Education’s priorities under her leadership. When Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) had the floor, she asked McMahon about the department cutting curricula they view as “illegal DEI.” On the subject of the Tulsa race massacre, McMahon suggested that she did not have enough information to form an opinion:

LEE: Would you say that it would be an “illegal DEI” for a lesson plan on the Tulsa race massacre?

MCMAHON: I’d have to get back to you on that.

LEE: Do you know what the Tulsa race massacre is?

MCMAHON: I’d like to look into it more and get back to you on it.

LEE: OK, so, I look forward to that. How about the book “Through My Eyes” by Ruby Bridges, for instance?

MCMAHON: I haven’t read that.

LEE: Have you learned about Ruby Bridges?

MCMAHON: If you have specific examples you’d like to cite–

LEE: That was a specific example.

MCMAHON: –I’ll be very happy–

LEE: It was an incredibly specific example. I named a specific book.

MCMAHON: –and I will look into it and get back to you.

Moments later, Lee asked about teaching kids that Biden won the 2020 election. Although it’s been widely debunked that the election was stolen from President Donald Trump, he has continued to push that claim:

LEE: How about social studies standards that teach that President Biden won the 2020 election?

MCMAHON: I think our studies should all be taught accurately.

LEE: Yes or no?

MCMAHON: I think our studies–

LEE: No, no, no. The question was, do you believe that social studies standards that teach that President Biden won the 2020 election is an “illegal DEI”? Yes or no?

MCMAHON: I think I have said we should teach accurately. We should–

LEE: No, you have not answered the question. I don’t understand why you’re incapable of answering.

MCMAHON: I’m just not giving you the answer you want.

LEE: No, I want the answer — whatever your answer is.

MCMAHON: I just gave you the answer.

LEE: No, the answer is yes or no. The answer is yes or no.

Lee’s questioning ended there as her time expired.
