Trump Snipes at Reporter Who Asks Him if His Administration Is ‘Weaponizing Government’
President Donald Trump took an exception to a reporter asking him at Tuesday’s cabinet meeting if he was “weaponizing” the government.
The day before, Trump announced on Truth Social that he had fired Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. In response, Cook released her own statement announcing her intentions to challenge the president’s decision. The statement claimed Trump had “no authority” to fire her.
During the Q&A portion of the cabinet meeting, CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes asked Trump if his administration was doing the very thing he criticized in previous years.
“You have spoken out very strongly for a long time about what you see as the weaponization of government,” Cordes said. “Is your administration weaponizing government by digging into the mortgage records of officials you don’t like?”
That question was met with an emphatic, “No,” from Trump.
“No, they’re public,” he said. “I mean, you can find out those records. You can go check out the records yourself; and you should be doing that job, actually. You wouldn’t do that because that’s not the kind of reporter you are. But you should be doing that job. I shouldn’t have to be doing it. If you did your job properly, we wouldn’t have problems like Lisa Cook.”
