Former President Donald Trump went on a rant on Truth Social after a federal jury in New York ordered him to pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll for defamation.

On Friday evening, a jury found that the Republican frontrunner was liable for $83.3 million in damages for defaming the author. Last year, a jury found Trump liable for sexually assaulting Carroll in a department store back in the 1990s and awarded her $5 million in damages.

Carroll was given $7.3 million in compensatory damages, $11 million in reputational repair, and $65 million in punitive damages. Trump has repeatedly denied the sexual assault allegations and has launched personal attacks on Carroll for years leading up to the defamation lawsuit.

In the aftermath of the verdict, Trump, who was not in the courtroom at the time the verdict was read, raged on Truth Social, vowing to appeal the jury’s decision and claimed President Joe Biden had directed the lawsuit.

“Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon,” the former president told his online followers.

“They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA,” Trump added.

The defamation case is just one of the many legal issues that the former president faces. Trump was criminally indicted four times last year in four jurisdictions for a variety of wrongdoings, including his handling of classified material and his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
