‘I Would Be Embarrassed!’ Fox Contributor — and Ex-Priest — Admits Trump’s AI Pope Image Is Not Something He Would Have Done
Jonathan Morris is both a Fox News contributor and a former Catholic priest. So he was a natural guest to opine on the bizarre AI-generated image of the president as pope, President Donald Trump shared on Saturday.
Late Friday night, Trump posted the pseudo-papal pic without a caption to his Truth Social account, which drew stunned reactions across social media, even from some of his own Truth Social followers.

When asked what if he was offended by the image, Cardinal Tim Dolan of the New York Archdioces (who enjoys good relationship with Trump) called the post “not good” and said that he hopes the president had nothing to do with posting the controversial image, particularly so close to the passing of Pope Francis.
Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked Morris what he made of the brewing controversy.
“I was actually there, Cardinal Dolan, when he responded to those questions. He was not the one looking to answer this. It was journalists who were peppering him with this question,” he replied, ostensibly blaming journalists for asking entirely reasonable questions.
“Listen, I do not even understand the mindset of being offended by anything anyone does, honestly, I do understand it,” he said, pivoting to mock those who found the image offensive.
“Imagine this, Bill: If I were to put that meme out of me dressed up as a pope, would somebody be offended? I think I hope not!” he continued. “You know, it’s a question of—I would be embarrassed to do it, but Pope…” Morris trailed off, perhaps aware of the not-so-subtle criticism he offered towards Trump, suggesting the president doesn’t have enough shame to post such a controversial meme at a sensitive time.
“Listen, President Trump knows what he’s doing,” Morris clarified. “He’s not doing it to offend Catholics. He was here in the Vatican just a few days ago to attend the funeral of Pope Francis. So I’ve seen it on other channels, people saying this was so offensive. I do not understand the mindset.”
