Former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump accused Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris of “leaving Americans to drown” in the wake of Hurricane Helene and staging a “FAKE” photo op of her directing the response to the natural disaster on Monday.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a screenshot of a post from Harris in which she appeared to be taking a phone call on Air Force Two and wrote that she had just been briefed by the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D).

“Our Administration will continue to stay in constant contact with state and local officials to ensure communities have the support and resources they need,” wrote Harris. “Doug and my thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones and those whose homes, businesses, and communities were damaged or destroyed during this disaster.”

Captioning his own post, Trump called the picture of Harris “Another FAKE and STAGED photo from someone who has no clue what she is doing,” before musing that, “You have to plug the cord into the phone for it to work!” a reference to speculation on social media that the headphones the vice president is donning in the picture are not plugged into the cell phone she appears to be using.

“Biden and Harris abandoned Americans in Afghanistan. They sacrificed Americans to an Open Border, and now, they have left Americans to drown in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and elsewhere in the South. Under this Administration, Americans always come last, because we have ‘leaders’ who have no idea how to lead!” continued the former president.

In a post from earlier in the day, Trump announced his intention to travel to to “Valdosta, Georgia, in order to pay my respects and bring lots of relief material, including fuel, equipment, water, and other things, to the State.”

He also added that he’d be traveling to North Carolina “shortly,” but didn’t “like the reports that I’m getting about the Federal Government, and the Democrat Governor of the State, going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas.”
