Trump Compares Himself to Nelson Mandela Over His Many Criminal Indictments

Donald Trump took his political persecution claims to a new level by likening himself to Nelson Mandela over the possibility that he could go to prison.

The former president held a rally in New Hampshire on Monday, where he complained about the charges raised against him from his four criminal indictments. This involved Trump claiming yet again that the 2020 election was “crooked,” and complaining “They only go after the people that challenged the elections of the election. They don’t go after the people that cheated.”

This led to Trump bringing up the news that his former allies, Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, both pled guilty as co-conspirators of Trump’s alleged scheme to illegally overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. With this, Trump once again depicted himself as a martyr by invoking Mandela’s name.

Look what happened this weekend with two good people! They hound them, and they scare them, but we don’t get scared. I’ll tell you what, I don’t mind being Nelson Mandela, because I’m doing it for a reason. We’ve gotta save our country from these fascists, these lunatics that we’re dealing with. They’re horrible people.

Trump compared his situation to the first president of South Africa, who spent 27 years in jail over his anti-apartheid activism before he was celebrated on the world stage and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This was after Trump claimed Powell was never his attorney, even though he himself said she represented him in a 2020 tweet, and her testimony could be damaging to his legal defense in Georgia.
