Trump Tells CPAC ‘I’m Going With Elon’ to Fort Knox ‘To See if the Gold Is Still There’
President Donald Trump said Saturday at the annual CPAC convention that he was going to take Elon Musk with him to Fort Knox in Kentucky to see if the country’s gold reserves were intact.
Earlier this week, Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he was going to have Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) investigate meritless claims the gold may have been raided from the US Bullion Depository.
Fort Knox is a highly protected military installation near Louisville that has housed a large portion of the country’s official gold reserves since the late 1930s.
The president noted during his speech to supporters in Maryland Saturday that he wouldn’t “be totally surprised” if they opened the vaults of the fort and found “there’s nothing here.”
“We’re also going to Fort Knox. I’m going to go with Elon,” Trump said. “And would anybody like to join us? Because we want to see if the gold is still there!” The president added:
“We want to see. Wouldn’t that be terrible? We open up this Fort Knox has got – it’s just solid granite that’s five feet thick. The front door. You need six musclemen to open it up. I don’t even think they have windows. Wouldn’t that be terrible if we opened it up into this and there was no gold there? So we’re going to open those doors.
We’re going to take a look and if there’s 27 tons of gold, we’ll be very happy. I don’t know how the hell we’re going to measure it, but that’s okay. We want to see lots of nice, beautiful, shiny gold in Fort Knox. Don’t be totally surprised. We opened the door. We’ll say there’s nothing here. They stole this too!
Trump concluded that the country was run by “corrupt” leaders before he was inaugurated four weeks ago.
