‘We Might Have to Suffer More of This Embarrassment’: Fox’s Brit Hume Not Exactly Optimistic Ahead of Another Speakership Vote

Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume is not optimistic about Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) chances heading into a third speakership vote on Thursday.

For the second day in a row, Jordan failed to gain the majority of votes cast in the House to become speaker. In fact, he received one fewer vote than he did the previous day. One House Republican indicated Jordan may lose even more votes on a third ballot.

The House has been in disarray since the chamber ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after a handful of Republicans joined Democrats to remove him. Republicans nominated Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) to replace him last week, but he was unable to get a majority of votes of the full House.

During Wednesday’s Special Report on Fox News, Bret Baier asked Hume to opine, particularly about the possibility of the House granting Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC) additional powers “to try to get things moving” until a new speaker is chosen.

Hume gave his assessment before warning more “embarrassment” is likely in the offing:

It seems to me that would be an acceptable solution to any reasonable person because it’s not permanent. It’s just for the short-term benefit of getting the House open and allowing certain measures that most people can agree on to pass.

But these hardcore Republican insurgents, who turned out Kevin McCarthy from his job and now are promoting Jim Jordan, I’m not sure they’ll sit still for that. Jordan lost a vote overnight. He was worse off than he was the other day when we talked about this. So, I’m not sure they’re gonna be willing to go along with anything like that. We might have to suffer more of this embarrassment for some days to come.
