‘Weird, Pseudo-Psycho Political Fetish’ Republicans Furious Over Matt Gaetz’s Coup Against Kevin McCarthy

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)  may not cling to that title for much longer despite his claim to having the support of the vast majority of the Republican caucus in the lower chamber of Congress.

Matt Gaetz (R-FL) appears to have secured the support of the necessary 5 Republicans to eject McCarthy from his position, and it doesn’t appear as though the Democratic caucus is eager to save him, although any of that could change in the coming hours.

The other 200+ Republicans in the House, however, are not happy.

Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY) has characterized Gaetz’s coup as “some sort of weird, pseudo psycho political fetish that needs to come to an end.” He’s not the only one to express frustration.

On her way out of a GOP conference meeting on Tuesday morning, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told the press that Gaetz admitted during the meeting “that there is no plan.”

“There’s no one that has stepped forward to run. There’s no one that is coming out saying I’ll be speaker and rallying support within the conference,” added Greene.

“We have a senile, unpopular Democrat president in the White House. Voters are rightfully pointing to Democrats as responsible for an unprecedented border crisis, persistent inflation, and rampant crime in every major city in America,” observed Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX). “But instead of pointing out those failures and presenting a united front to address real problems facing our country, Republicans are about to spend another week – maybe more – pointlessly fighting with each other. This is stupid.”

“It’s a waste of time,” Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Monday. “The only way that Matt Gaetz could be successful at a motion to vacate to remove Kevin McCarthy as speaker is if more than 200 Democrats join with him.”

Even Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), one of the harshest critics of GOP leadership over the years has came out against the attempt to oust McCarthy.

“From my perspective, the House has been functioning better, more transparently, and more conservatively, with Speaker McCarthy than it did with Speaker Boehner or Speaker Ryan,” submitted Massie on X. “We have issues, but replacing Speaker McCarthy won’t magically fix them. In fact, it could get worse.”
