‘What Office Was Hunter Biden In?’ John Berman Takes GOP Rep To Task Over Biden Family Subpoenas

Things got uncomfortable as CNN’s John Berman pressed Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) about his changing views on enforcing congressional subpoenas.

Murphy claimed that he would “absolutely” hold Hunter Biden and Jim Biden in contempt of Congress if they didn’t respond to subpoenas issued in President Joe Biden’s impeachment investigation.

“You say, ‘Yes, absolutely.’ Why have you changed your position on holding people in contempt of Congress?” Berman asked. “Because you voted against holding Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress.”

MURPHY: Well, I think it’s a little bit different when you have a president of the United States. We have somebody who’s not an elected official. You have the president of the United States – was selling his influence. His son was selling—

BERMAN: No, but I don’t understand. We’re talking — the people you’re talking —

MURPHY: It’s a little bit higher or different of standards, John, when you have somebody who’s in elected office versus somebody who’s not in elected office.

BERMAN: Steve Bannon wasn’t in elected office.

MURPHY: He’s the President of the United States. He was the vice President of the United States.

BERMAN: Who are you saying — who are you saying was — is in elected office here when you’re talking about holding people in contempt of Congress for being non-responsive?

MURPHY: Well, what — tell me what office Steve Bannon was in.

BERMAN: Well, tell me what office Hunter Biden was in.

MURPHY: No, I’m not talking about Hunter Biden. I’m talking about Joe Biden, the president of the United States, received money or pushed influence peddling.

BERMAN: You haven’t subpoenaed him. You haven’t subpoenaed him. I’m asking — I’m asking if Hunter Biden or Jim Biden, the brother and son of the president, who are not elected officials, if they are not responsive, will you hold them in contempt?

Murphy refused to answer the contempt question and went on to talk about the allegations of influence peddling against the president, as Berman admitted, “I’m actually still confused.”
