Opossum Gets Hilariously Dragged Off the Field After Interrupting a College Football Game

An opossum stormed a college football field on Friday in what may go down as one of the quickest instances of animal wrangling ever seen at a living sporting event.

After the first quarter came to a close in the Thursday night game between Texas Tech and TCU, the opossum somehow made its way onto the field. It apparently didn’t take long to get the situation under control, as the opossum was seen getting dragged off the field by what had to have been some kind of animal control specialist.

“Rodents of unusual size showing up in Lubbock,” announcer Jeff Levering said while analyst Mark Helfrich burst into laughter. “That just happened. We had an opossum on the field at about the 15-yard line. He was not happy about being escorted out of the stadium.”

Accompanying Levering’s commentary was a slow-motion shot of the opossum in full stride. The broadcast then switched to the shot of the animal seemingly hissing as it was helplessly dragged away.

Even Helfrich couldn’t help but marvel at how efficiently it was taken care of.

“I’m glad that guy had the stick with a thing on it,” he said. “I didn’t know that was at every event. That was impressive.”

The crew on the field should be commended for not letting things spiral out of control. It’s the exact opposite of what happened with the infamous Monday Night Football black cat.
