Stephen A. Smith Rips Ron DeSantis for Using State Budget to Sue Over FSU College Football Snub: ‘Don’t You Have Bigger Priorities?’

Stephen A. Smith took a shot at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for his plan to use state funding to sue the NCAA for Florida State’s absence from the College Football Playoff.

The Selection Committee’s decision to leave FSU out was met with a great deal of backlash. Despite losing star quarterback Jordan Travis near the end of the regular season, the Seminoles still finished the season undefeated and won the ACC championship.

DeSantis felt the snub was egregious enough for legal action. Florida’s 2024 budget indicated $1 million will be used to fund litigation against the NCAA for FSU’s exclusion from the CFP.

In calling out DeSantis, Smith also threw shade at his presidential campaign.

“Will you stop?” Smith said on The Stephen A. Smith Show on Thursday. “First of all, sir, don’t you have bigger priorities? I mean you’re down, you’re trailing Donald Trump by about 59 points in the polls. The man ain’t even show up to debate you because he considers you that insignificant. Don’t you have bigger problems?”

Then, Smith started criticizing the governor for his policies while continuing to harp on his campaign.

“I mean, thank the good lord that you ain’t trying to alter the education system by talking us about how there were ‘good elements to slavery,’ with the school board people that you put in place that were trying to make that argument,” Smith said. “Thank goodness you ain’t doing that anymore.

“Let me tell you something: you’re getting your ass kicked by Donald Trump. Nikki Haley is coming up the rear. She’s got donors on the left voting for her.”
