WATCH: Yale Men’s Basketball Pulled Off One of the Worst Choke Jobs of All-Time By Blowing a 5-Point Lead in the Last 3 Seconds

Yale University’s men’s basketball team had one of the most incredible losses in recent memory Saturday when it somehow gave up a five-point lead with just over three seconds left.

Near the end of the Bulldogs’ game against the University of Vermont, they led 65-60 with 3.8 seconds left. With victory for Yale virtually assured, the Vermont crowd began clearing out.

Then, Vermont guard Aaron Deloney drove to the basket for a layup, cutting the lead to three with 0.6 seconds remaining. Immediately after the basket, things got very interesting when Yale guard August Mahoney was called for the offensive foul while his team was attempting to inbound the ball.

“Now, on the inbound, you gotta do the thing where you draw the fake foul,” ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt said on Monday Night’s episode of SportsCenter. “Oh, they bought it. The refs bought it!”

Replays of the foul showed an obvious flop that drew the whistle.

On Vermont’s next possession, guard TJ Long threw up a prayer of a 3-point attempt as the buzzer sounded. It banked off the backboard and went in — and Long was fouled on the shot. Suddenly, Vermont had the chance to take the lead with a four-point play.

Long cashed on the free throw and gave his team a 66-65 lead.

The officials put 0.3 seconds back on the clock, but it ended up being for nothing as Yale failed to get a quality shot in that little amount of time.
