Rep. Jim McGovern: Government Shutdown is Because Trump ‘Went Off His Meds’
While speaking with Fox News’ Peter Doocy on Capitol Hill, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said he believes Congress was on the verge of making a deal to keep the government funded until President Donald Trump “went off his meds.”
“I think it’s an embarrassment anytime the government shuts down, and this being no exception,” McGovern said on Friday.
“We gotta work at it until we get to an agreement where a majority say yes,” he continued. “We had that until the President, you know, went off his meds and who the hell knows what happens.”
The partial government has now entered its sixth day as lawmakers and the Trump haggle over funding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Republicans hold the House, Senate, & White House until January 3rd. They shut this government down & they have an obligation to open it back up. If they continue refusing to do so, @HouseDemocrats will move to responsibly end the #TrumpShutdown on day one of the new Congress.

As the shutdown has dragged on, Trump has continued to stand firm in making sure government spending will include funding for the wall.
“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with. Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve,” he tweeted Friday morning.
