Swalwell Hits WH Amid Reports of 120K Troop Deployment: It Won’t Be Trump’s or Bolton’s Kids Going

Congressman Eric Swalwell, a 2020 Democratic candidate, ripped the Trump administration over a recent report on U.S. military plan for Iran.

Swalwell spoke with Chris Matthews about the White House’s approach to Iran, asking why they’re “singling out Iran” differently from North Korea.

Matthews brought up parallels to the run-up to the Iraq war and said, “They’re doing the same game they played before.”

“And 120,000 people, Chris,” Swalwell said, referencing that New York Times report. “That’s not going to be Don Jr. and Eric going over to Iraq, that’s going to be our service members.”

Trump today said that report was “fake news,” but also said, “Hopefully we’re not going to have to plan for that and if we did that, we’d send a hell of a lot more troops than that.”

At one point Matthews brought up past comments from National Security Adviser John Bolton on Iran and Swalwell said, “John Bolton has never seen a diplomatic solution that he didn’t want to bomb.”

He said Trump has “no core operating principles” and that that should “terrify everybody,” before repeating, “These are not John Bolton’s kids or the president’s kids who are going to have to fight this war.”

Matthews asked if he thinks Trump would “fight a nuclear war with Iran to win re-election.”

Swalwell responded, “I wouldn’t take anything oust table with this corrupt, childish president.”
