President-elect Donald Trump promised on Friday the GOP will try to eliminate daylight saving time as he prepares to reenter the White House.
Americans set their clocks one hour ahead in March and one back during the month of November. The recent dates were established by Congress following the passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
However, recently there has been a bipartisan push by lawmakers and activists to end daylight saving time altogether with some supporters arguing it is outdated and unnecessary.
Trump told his followers in a statement on Truth Social that the practice is “inconvenient” and provides too much of a cost for the country.
“The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.” Trump wrote on Friday afternoon.

Back in 2019 during his first term in office, Trump previously supported keeping America on daylight saving time as state legislatures were debating whether to eliminate the practice. Currently, Arizona and Hawaii are the only states that do not follow daylight saving time.
