Trump Revels in Speaker Hopeful Tom Emmer Kissing the Ring: ‘He’s My Biggest Fan Now’

Former President Donald Trump basked in Tom Emmer’s (R-MN) attempts to cozy up to him, now that the House majority whip is running to be the next speaker.

Trump appeared in New Hampshire on Monday to officially file himself on the state’s 2024 primary ballot. He wound up taking questions from reporters, one of whom asked about Trump’s reportedly less-than-glowing opinion of Emmer.

“Would you endorse Tom Emmer for speaker?” The reporter asked. “He hasn’t historically been your biggest fan, but he is the most likely candidate right now.”

Trump dismissed that notion, answering, “He’s my biggest fan now because he called me yesterday and told me I’m your biggest fan.”

I’m sorta trying to stay out of that as much as possible, but they’ll get it straightened out. I’ve always gotten along with him. I get along all of them really.

Trump previously endorsed Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) House Speaker bid, though the congressman folded his bid last week after multiple failed votes. The House of Representatives remains paralyzed until a successor to Kevin McCarthy is voted in, and Emmer is currently squaring up against eight Republican rivals for the House GOP’s nomination.
